Identity Theft Response
In the unfortunate event that you become a victim of identity theft, information is provided on steps to take to help resolve the incident.
  • File a police report and keep a copy.
  • Place a Fraud Alert on your file with all three credit bureaus:

Experian, 888-397-3742
Equifax, 800-525-6285
TransUnion, 800-680-7289

  • Close all accounts that were affected.
  • File a complaint with the FTC.
    Call 877-438-4338 or complete the online form.
     
  • Alert your financial institutions and all your unaffected creditors to alert you if new accounts are opened or other unusual activity.
  • Change your PINs and passwords as applicable.


  • Call 1-800-269-0271, the Social Security Administration Fraud Alert Hotline.
     
  • Call the Department of Motor Vehicles to find out if a new Driver’s License has been issued in your name. If so, request a new license number and fill out the DMV’s complaint form.
     
  • If law enforcement, your financial institutions, or other organizations involved in your specific identity theft case provide specific steps to take to comply with their policies to resolve your incident, please follow them.
