Lost mobiles to pile up in taxis in run up to Xmas

London residents leave an average 10,000 mobile phones in the back of taxis every month.

Passengers also forget an estimated 1,000 other tech gizmos - including iPods, laptops and memory sticks - in London cabs every month, according to a survey of London's licensed cabbies. The amount of gear left in cabs peaks during the run-up to Christmas, as passengers struggle to get out of cabs with multiple items of shopping, leaving them more likely to leave something behind.

iPhone anti-malware stuck in state of denial -
Not needed, says Apple. Won't run, say developers

The blaze of publicity that accompanied the release of the first iPhone worms this month has sparked interest in selling anti-malware products for the device. However no such security products currently exist and Apple shows little inclination in licensing any that do get developed.

Antivirus products for Symbian smartphones have been available for years, but not one antivirus product is available for the iPhone, from any vendor. Releasing such tools would require the help of Apple, which tightly controls what applications are licensed to run on the devices via its successful AppStore marketplace.

Malicious Intent

"Hi. Welcome to the Apple Store. Can I help you?" says the Apple Specialist in a calm yet monotone voice.

"Yes, I am looking to purchase anti-virus software for my MacBook Pro," I reply.

"Hmm, I don't think we sell that here," he says in the same neutral voice.

"According to the Apple website you do carry it in the store," I assert.

Google boss dismisses privacy concerns

Google boss Eric Schmidt has said that internet users who are concerned about privacy shouldn’t be fretting if they have done nothing wrong.

In an interview with CNBC, Schmidt said that users who have done nothing wrong have nothing to fear and confirmed that Google was retaining customer information that could be accessed by the government.

"If you have something that you don't want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place," he said.
